General InformationThe Marching Knights is a class during the Fall Semester at the University of Central Florida. It is 2 credit hours, and meets MTWRF 1500-1640 (3pm - 4:40pm). The Marching Knights are well known for high energy performances with unique music and drill, and are one of the premier bands in the US who focus on crowd entertainment and enjoyment. If you are interested in joining, simply get on our mailing listing by calling us at (407) 823-BAND. Simply say that you are interested in getting more information about the Marching Knights, and you will be put on our mailing list which includes information such as Band Camp dates, audition dates (Starlet Knights & Percussion) and so on. WindsHere are a few key points specifically for wind players:
PercussionThere is an audition to be part of drumline a few days before Band Camp starts. You're invited to tryout on Snare, Bass Drum (1-6), Tenors, Cymbals, and Racks (not always). We DO NOT march with a pit. For more information, please follow the directions under General Information. Starlet KnightsClick Here for the Dancer Poster 2000Details are subject to change. For the most accurate information, please follow the directions in General Information. FAQQ: Do you have to Audition? A: Not to become part of the Marching Knights. The only audition is on the first day of band camp with your section coordinator and music assistant for your section (students), and is simply to assign parts, not 'chairs'. Relax, it's harmless. (NOTE: Percussion and Starlet Knights DO audition, this only applies to wind players) Q: What style is the marching? A: Mainly Corps style, a standard roll-step... no matter what style you marched in High School, during band camp we teach everyone the MK way. And don't worry, if you are afraid it's 'too different' (say for instance, you high-stepped in high school), we encourage you to come out and give us a try. Many of the Marching Knights had the same feelings you did when they started, and have come to love their final decision. Q: Are there school instruments available? A: YES! The school provides Sousaphones, Mellophones, and Baritones. Also available to check out are Trombones, Piccolos, Clarinets, and Saxophones (Alto & Tenor). This will all be handled at the beginning of band camp. Q: How much does it cost, or do we get paid? A: Since Marching Band is a 2 credit hour course, the price is set by the university's cost per credit hour. For the past 2 years however, Returning Marching Knights have received a $200 stipend IF the completed the course with an 'A', which covers the cost of the course. *SUBJECT TO CHANGE* Q: Do we perform at all Home and/or Away Games? A: The Marching Knights perform at all Home Games, held at the Citrus Bowl downtown. Usually, the Marching Knights travel to ONE (1) away game during the season. Sometimes, more trips or events come up which require a pep band, which is determined on an individual event basis. Q: What is MKLOVE? A: Got me... just don't mention it and maybe it will go away. NOTE: Check back regularly for updates to the FAQ, as more and more questions are asked yearly. UCF WinterguardThis happens every Spring. Contact: Summer Harms
